Applying Myself

This week’s focus has been on applying myself to different things; literally for jobs and figuratively to my own projects and my own wellness.

I have realized that I do much better mentally and physically when I fill my planner with tasks for myself to do. I have been focusing this week on planning out even little parts of my day, like running errands for more paper and time to paint and time to apply for jobs. I bought a Passion Planner because I realized that while I have my own goals, I don’t dedicate any part of my planner to planning steps to achieve these goals.

Yesterday, I dedicated time in my planner to apply for a few jobs I had been interested in and managed to apply for 4 jobs, write 3 cover letters, etc. in the span of a couple of hours! I felt amazing about myself and realized that I thrive when I give myself dedicated time to specific tasks, and if I were to be completely honest, I still feel great about it.

I finished my Abundant Art Show painting last Saturday and it is currently on my new Etsy store for sale!

The last several months of my time at school I did work exclusively digitally because I needed a lot more digital work in my Portfolio. Doing my Abundant Art Show piece in watercolors felt like reuniting with a really good friend and I sort of went on a bit of a watercolor frenzy to enjoy and reconnect with my watercolors, driven by the realization that I can paint whatever I want now. Applying myself to these paintings has been incredibly fulfilling to me. Here are in progress shots of some of my watercolors:

I have also been working on my Patreon! The Patreon page is for working on a project and concept that I’ve held dear to my heart for the last 8 years that I have been working on secretly and would love to release it to the public. My Patreon is called Sparks of Life and is a series of digital illustrations that are connected to each other with little to no written context. I love art that tells a story, and I love stories that differ between person to person.

I have been trying to work on the tiers to make them appropriate for my audience and for the price points. All tiers are priced per illustration I produce since I will not be able to constantly work on this, and I would not be publishing more than 2 illustrations a month. I have also been trying to work on my goals so I have incentive for more people to become a Patron to support my work. This is what I have so far:

Tiers

  • Sparks ($1 or more per illustration)
    • Early access to Sparks of Life‘s WIP sketches and photos
  • Embers ($5 or more per illustration)

Goals

  1. $100– I can afford to do a second series in traditional media! The original series will continue digitally, but I will be able to create another narrative that I can illustrate in traditional mediums like watercolor.
  2. $200– I will publish an art book that will compile all of the Sparks of Life illustrations in one place and will also include some exclusive art that won’t be seen published on Patreon! Of course, all Patrons will be able to get the art book for a discount as a thank you for making this possible!
  3. $300– I will be able to make videos and start a YouTube channel to show my process in detail when creating both digital and traditional illustrations for both series along with anything else I might be working on! All Patrons will be able to see exclusive real-time videos to be able to see what brushes and techniques I use in greater detail!
  4. $400– I will release another art book with even more illustrations from Sparks of Life and more exclusive art! All Patrons will again be able to get the art book for a discount as a thank you, along with an exclusive 4″ x 6″ print that won’t be present on Patreon or in the book!
  5. $800– I will be having an art show to showcase Sparks of Life! All Patrons will be invited to this show to come meet me and see the original traditional illustrations!
  6. $1875- I will be able to work on Sparks of Life full time! This is my dream and I am finally able to achieve it thanks to you guys! Illustrations will be released on a regular schedule, and all Patrons will receive a handwritten letter thanking them for their help in making this possible with a signed 12″ x 18″ print of their choosing.

Do you have any advice for me on my goals or tiers? Do you have any questions for me? Please don’t hesitate to comment and start a conversation! Thanks, and I’ll see you all next week!
